We checked in to the Fernwood Resort upon arrival in the Big Sur area.  I have to say the term “resort” should be taken lightly.  It’s more in line with what most would associate with a motel.  They have individual cabins in the woods, a restaurant, bar, and small general store along with several motel rooms.  There are a couple other “resorts” in the area with a similar layout.

Next time I am visiting the area I will be staying someplace else.  Don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t a horrible place to stay and down the road I wouldn’t write off staying there again.  The general store and restaurant were nice, the landscaping was well done, and the price reasonable.  The location was excellent.  The bed was comfortable enough, but our bathroom had a little mold, the paint was chipping off the walls, and the toilet had seen better days (though it was clean!).  I like camping and would probably venture down that road on my next trip to Big Sur, but with the mountain lions in the area maybe not…more than likely I will be trying out one of the individual cabins either at Fernwood or one of the other nearby resorts.
