The Hood River lavender farm should be on your list of places to stop if you’re in Hood River during the summer months. Admittedly the fields aren’t as expansive as we expected based on some of the pictures we had seen, but it is still worth a stop. No need to plan on spending much time here. Enough to see and smell (and oh wow what an amazing smell!) and maybe even cut your own lavender to take home. Maybe an hour, tops. You do have scenic views of both Mt. Hood and Mt. Adams from their field so there are a few good photo ops.
We arrived at the end of the annual lavender festival. Lots of people were milling about, cutting their own bunches of lavender (the cost is $5 if you’re interested) and enjoying the music. There were live music acts, tents for shade, vendors of various crafts and food. It was a nice little community event. A positive sensory experience for sure!
**word of caution** because it is a field of flowers expect lots and lots of bees. I am allergic and was therefore a little nervous but thankfully all the bees seemed much more interested in the lavender than in me. All the same, make sure you take appropriate precautions if you too are allergic.
