Venturing across the Ohio River into Kentucky (go ahead and get any jokes out of the way now). If you love horses, cars, and nature then this is the State for you. Kentucky is famously home to both Churchill Downs, where the Kentucky Derby is held each year, and the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington. The horse park is jaw droppingly large and simply awesome!

Growing up in Southwestern Ohio, it seemed like a nearly weekly occurrence to venture into a neighboring State. It blew my mind when I moved to the middle of the State and met people who hadn’t crossed the State border until much later in life or not at all in some cases. Before heading out our last day, we had a great breakfast at New Day Restaurant in downtown Port Angeles near the ferry to Victoria. Fast, friendly service and many locally sourced and fresh ingredients. They have an almost overwhelming selection of breakfast and lunch items to choose from. One morning we had fantastic doughnuts from Cock-a-doodle Doughnuts. Conveniently located right next to our hotel, they receive rave reviews from the locals, Yelp, and Trip Advisor.
