Gatlinburg, TN

It has been over a decade since I’ve been to Gatlinburg, TN but when I was growing up we vacationed here countless times and I have nothing but fond memories.  Gatlinburg is nestled in the Great Smokey Mountains and the most popular form of lodging are the chalets that dot the landscape.  There are of course also your expected hotels and motels but in my opinion a chalet is the only way to go. Las Vegas – Planet Hollywood

For our last night in Las Vegas we stayed at the Planet Hollywood hotel and it was fantastic!  I have to admit I had a preconceived notion of what to expect given the reputation of the Planet Hollywood restaurant chain, but I couldn’t have been more wrong.  Naturally the decor is over the top, it is Vegas after all, but it’s contemporary and exquisitely done.  (more…)

From the Road: San Francisco Cable Car

The San Francisco Cable Car Museum is located at the corner of Mason and Washington.  It was quite the hike to get their from our hotel.  Courtesy of the hills, distances are deceiving!  Walking the hills allows for a deeper appreciation for the need of the Cable Car. (more…)

From the Road: Monterey

We didn’t have much time to spend in Monterrey but we did stop for lunch at a little roadside, walk up restaurant at the corner of Ocean View Boulevard and Eardley Avenue, Archie’s American Diner.  There was a sit down counterpart as well, but the walk up window allows for either on the go eating or kicking back on their patio.  The area is surrounded by parking meters.  (more…)
