One of the least visited of the National Parks is the Northern Cascades. Located in northern Washington State just over two hours northeast of Seattle, it is certainly one of the more secluded though surprisingly easy to get too…provided of course the snow has been cleared! Not to scare you off though, in July the snow was gone in all but the highest of places. There are great hiking trails and amazing scenery that is hard to beat.
A relatively new park, incorporated into the system in 1968 there aren’t any lodging options inside the park as there are with most of the more popular National Parks, which likely plays a large factor in how little this park is visited. There also aren’t many towns located within close proximity to provide lodging. We stayed in Burlington which worked well for us but there are a few areas a bit closer in to the park you could try as well. While there aren’t any lodges, there are several very nice campgrounds for tent camping or smaller RVs. All of this is probably for the best because it is nice to know there is at least one place left on earth where you can still get away from it all. 🙂
