We took off down the Pacific Coast Highway (aka The PCH, aka California 1) for the area of Big Sur. There are numerous turn outs which they call Vista Points along the route where you can stop to take in the impressive views….impressive isn’t even the right word. The flight out to San Francisco was long and mostly uneventful with the exception of the guy sitting next to us making me nervous with his jitteriness.…turns out he was just jonesing for a smoke; quite the relief. Flying over the Rocky Mountains was the highlight of the 4 hour 23 minute flight. Delta had us on time from gate to gate. (more…)
As I prepare for my trip to California (and let me tell you I have been like a 4 year old waiting for Santa Claus as this trip draws near), I am working on my packing checklist. I have been on too many trips where I realize too late that I forgot something I had intended to pack. To help reduce the occurrence of those “I can’t believe I forgot to pack…” moments I have started to compile lists ahead of time. (more…)
Ocho Rios, Jamaica is a popular port for cruise ships and nearby Dunns River Falls is one of the most popular attractions. Dunns River Falls is accessible to the public whether you are visiting from a cruise ship, a nearby resort, or a family member. Not only do you get to see this beautiful natural phenomenon (it constantly regenerates itself and dumps directly in to the ocean) but you also have the opportunity to climb it for an even closer look. Out of the islands in the Caribbean I have visited, Grand Cayman is one of my favorites. I have been to the island twice, both times as a port of call on cruises, and both times I have ventured out to Stingray City. A lot of people are fearful of these graceful creatures. To be fair they do have that unpleasant poisonous barb on their tail, but this barb is only dangerous if the ray you are near is feeling threatened. (more…)
