From the Road: Point Lobos State Reserve

Only about 5-10 minutes from Tickle Pink Inn is Point Lobos State Reserve.  This reserve covers not only the land you can walk on but also reaches out to cover roughly 775 acres of the ocean.  This submerged portion of the reserve has recently been added to a total of 5.36 square miles of ocean to now form the Point Lobos State Marine Reserve.  Scuba and free diving is allowed within the preserve.  (more…)

Big Sur is the most beautiful place I have ever been to.  When I visited the Grand Canyon and surrounding region it took my breath away but Big Sur stole my heart.  It is a coastal region in central California that is not so clearly defined and is sparsely populated. (more…)

From the Road: The PCH

We took off down the Pacific Coast Highway (aka The PCH, aka California 1) for the area of Big Sur.  There are numerous turn outs which they call Vista Points along the route where you can stop to take in the impressive views….impressive isn’t even the right word.  Quite frankly the adjectives to describe the beauty of the coastline don’t yet exist. Dunns River Falls

Ocho Rios, Jamaica is a popular port for cruise ships and nearby Dunns River Falls is one of the most popular attractions.  Dunns River Falls is accessible to the public whether you are visiting from a cruise ship, a nearby resort, or a family member.  Not only do you get to see this beautiful natural phenomenon (it constantly regenerates itself and dumps directly in to the ocean) but you also have the opportunity to climb it for an even closer look.  (more…)

Hoover Dam

Hoover Dam spans the Colorado River between Arizona and Nevada. Completed in 1936 it was the largest dam of it’s kind, and currently ranks 38th. It supplies power to Arizona, Nevada, and a large portion of southern California, including Los Angeles. Without this dam it is very likely that these areas would not be inhabited, at least not to the extent they are today. (more…)

Grand Canyon

The Grand Canyon is located in northern Arizona near the Utah border (just in case you weren’t already aware of where this natural wonder is located), and as you may have learned from one of my previous posts, it is one of the first National Parks.  I have only visited the South Rim since it is open year round and we went the week after Thanksgiving.  (more…)
